I have had the pleasure of working with Emma McConachy for the past 18 months developing a Sustainability Strategy for the NZ Screen Production Industry (SPI).

Emma was initially hired by Film New Zealand (FNZ) to present a session on Sustainability at the 2008 SPADA conference. Her understanding of the sustainability issues facing the SPI was evident at the Conference; she thoroughly researched the topic & was able to speak authoritatively to the subject matter. Emma was able to engage the audience on a difficult topic & provide suggested solutions to the challenges facing the industry.

Emma’s background in developing the Greening the Screen toolkit & website whilst working at Landcare Research was pivotal to her ongoing consultation with us. When FNZ took over the hosting of the Greening the Screen website- it made sense to ask Emma to work with us on its development & revision. Part of the website update was to produce Regional Sustainability Resource Guides. This involved researching suppliers & services applicable to the screen production industry, working alongside the network of Regional Film Offices and producing an easy to use guide for each region.

Finally, Emma continues to work with Film New Zealand on the formation of a Sustainability Advisory Group charged with developing a Sustainability Strategy for the SPI.
